Guitar tabs

Guitar tabs (short for guitar tablatures) are often seen in notation for both rock and pop music. However it is also common in folk music. In fact, Renaissance and Baroque musicians also used this format for navigating guitar music.

Guitar tabs tell musicians where to place their fingers rather the simply writing and notes that they should play. Some people use the word chord symbol and tab interchangeably. Others find this incorrect because technically chord symbols are made up of notes.

Guitar tabs are available for download on the Internet. They are extremely popular among beginning musicians who want to learn popular songs, but are not advanced music readers. By following the notation of the tabs they can simply figure out where to place their fingers and then memorize the physical movements
